Some of you may have already heard the sad news about Bill Smith, a veteran fell runner who ran for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, and the highly respected author of ‘Studmarks on the Summits – A History of Amateur Fell Racing 1861-1983′. His body was found on Saddle Fell by a walker, and was brought down by Bowland and Pennine MRT. It appears he passed away while out running on the fell.
This is the report on BPMRT’s website about the incident: http://www.bowlandpenninemrt.org.uk/2011.htm.Mr Colin Driver, who lives in Cowpe, knew Bill; when Colin heard of his death, and the respect and care BPMRT showed when bringing Bill’s body down, he decided to make a donation to his local Mountain Rescue Team. We are grateful to receive his cheque for £1,000, which is a massive help to keeping the Team operationally effective.
Many thanks to you Colin.
