A kind donation in memory of a great fell runner

Some of you may have already heard the sad news about Bill Smith, a veteran fell runner who ran for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, and the highly respected author of  ‘Studmarks on the Summits – A History of Amateur Fell Racing 1861-1983’. His body was found on Saddle Fell by a walker, and was brought down by Bowland and Pennine MRT. It appears he passed away while out running on the fell.

The legendary Bill Smith

This is the report on BPMRT’s website about the incident: http://www.bowlandpenninemrt.org.uk/2011.htm.

Mr Colin Driver, who lives in Cowpe, knew Bill; when Colin heard of his death, and the respect and care BPMRT showed when bringing Bill’s body down, he decided to make a donation to his local Mountain Rescue Team. We are grateful to receive his cheque for £1,000, which is a massive help to keeping the Team operationally effective.

Many thanks to you Colin.
