Incident 15/08/15 – Missing Person Search (BOLTON)

Bolton search 150815 3At 23.25hrs on Thursday the 13th of August 2015, Bolton Mountain rescue Team were contacted by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), regarding a missing 50 year old man from the Heaton area of Bolton, in circumstances giving concern for his welfare.

The call was answered by Bolton Team Leader Garry Rhodes MBE, who was informed by Police that they had already checked out car parks in the Queens Park, Bolton and Moses Gate Country Park and Farnworth areas.

Garry liaised and advised with officers involved in this missing from home enquiry, whilst team members remained on standby to assist.

It was decided that Bolton MRT could be stood down until the missing man’s car could be located, and this was paged to the team at 00.25hrs, in the very early hours of Friday 14th August.

By this stage Bolton team call out contacts Steve Fletcher and Mike Marsh, alongside their Deputy Team Leader Chris Greenhalgh and Team Leader Garry Rhodes, had all consulted together regards possible actions.

Bolton team members John Dickinson and Michael Eddleston in their GMFRS Bolton North Community Fire Station garaged Land Rover, assisted the Police enquiry by further checking car parks in the Rivington and Belmont areas, in a continuing effort to locate the missing man’s silver coloured Renault Meganne Scenic car.

In touch with Bolton’s Team Leader, who in turn was in touch with GMP, their search ended at 02.25hrs, Friday 14th August, with the missing man’s car not being located.Bolton search 150815 2

During the team’s early contact with GMP regarding this incident, the possible assistance of Cheshire SART was also established via contact with their Team Leader Simon Lane, should additional resources be required, given the early suggestion of a search in the Moses Gate area.

In total six Bolton MRT members were directly involved in dealing with this incident, alongside Cheshire SART Team Leader Simon Lane.

GMP enquiries continued in to Friday 14th August, with Bolton’s Team Leader further consulting with a GMP Missing from Home Search Manager the afternoon of Friday 14th August.

At around 11:00hrs on 15/08/2015, RPMRT Team Leader Peter Goble was contacted by Bolton MRT, requesting assistance with the High Risk Missing Person.

Resources from Greater Manchester Police, Rossendale and Pendle MRT, Cheshire SART and the North West Police Underwater Search & Marine Unit continued in an on-going large scale search for a missing 50 year old male in the Moses Gate Country park area. Bolton search 150815 4

Approximately 60 volunteers were involved in this search, including specialist water search and rescue trained persons, four search dogs and their handlers and numerous police officers, police community support officers and mounted police.

At 21:04hrs on the 15/08/2015, RPMRT were stood down from the incident after completing our tasked search area.

On the 16/08/15, GMP Sergeant Steve Malone of Greater Manchester Police informed Mountain Rescue Teams, that the missing person had now been found safe and well at a location close to the park.
