Incident 08/05/16 Moorland Fire (DARWEN) 30/16

CALL-OUT – (30 of 2016)

Date:  08/05/2016.

Time: 19:24hrs – 23:20hrs.

Location: Darwen (Moors).

Request from: Lancashire Fire and Rescue.

Details: Firefighters were called to reports of a fire involving part of the Moorland up near Broadhead Road at approximately 4pm. When the first crews arrived at the scene, they requested the attendance of further crews and 11 fire engines were at the scene including one from Greater Manchester FRS, Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, Bolton Mountain Rescue Team and the Bay Search & Rescue Team.

The wildfire appears to be covering approximately 10 hectares has been sectorised into four sections and firefighters are fighting the fire using beaters and air powered equipment. A fogging unit was set up at approximately 20:30hrs and was also being used to fight the fire.

There were multiple seats to this fire and it is believed that they were started deliberately.

Our full team were deployed to the Moors using a large number of our volunteer team members and vehicles. This also including our brand new Polaris ATV/buggy, assisting the fire service in their task.
