Incident 25/04/18 – Injured male on Scout Moor (EDENFIELD)

Date: 25/04/18

Time: 00:55hrs – 05:10hrs.

Location: Scout Moor, Edenfield.

Request from: NorthWest Ambulance Service.

Details: In the early hours of Wednesday morning the team were called out by NWAS to a injured male in the area of Scout Moor near Edenfield.

Team members RV’d at the layby near Owd Betts pub and were soon deployed onto the moor for a hasty search to locate the casualty.

The weather conditions were poor and not helped by low cloud, but approximately 20 mins later we located a faint torch shining near the summit of Knowl Hill.

We immediately started casualty care and a team paramedic started a primary survey to assess the casualty’s injuries and condition.

Due to the location and the fact the casualty had been unable to get communications for over 14 hours and was hence suffering from exposure, other team members were en route via the Edenfield quarry road in a team vehicle.

On arrival of our vehicle we split our team and grabbed the bell stretcher and proceeded to make our way back to our teammates at the cas site.

We packaged the gentleman who was also suffering from a pelvic injury and negotiated the carry off down Knowl Hill. In between this time leadership decided to call on HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) as they have a specialist 6 wheeled Polaris with a stretcher integrated and based on the casualty’s injuries and length of time he was exposed, plus the terrain, they were brought in to assist.

It was a great example of interoperability between different agencie and general team work that night. The casualty was safely taken to hospital to be treated and we wish him a speedy recovery.
