The Halfway in a Day 2010

Saturday, July 03 2010 @ 9:00 AM

The Halfway in a Day is aimed at those who want a slightly less strenuous day out!

This year's event sets off from Rossendale School at 9.00am. The entry fee is £15 for adults.

Those who take part are expected to be able to navigate the route using their own skills. They must carry appropriate equipment including maps, a compass, a whistle, spare food and drink, plus suitable boots and waterproof clothing. Walkers and runners taking part in the full trek must be aged 16 or over. Under-18s must be accompanied by a named adult throughout the walk. The minimum age for the halfway walk is 12.

Ken Crossley, this year’s organiser, said: ‘The Rossendale Way is magnificent walk that goes through some fantastic countryside and some great industrial heritage.

‘It has attracted entrants from across the North West and raised much-needed funds for the team down the years.

‘And this year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever – with new start points, better facilities and improved catering.

‘We hope to see many new faces taking part this year, as well as old friends who have done the trek before, and that they will raise more funds through sponsorship than ever before so we can continue providing this vital emergency service for local people.’
