Fundraising
Mountain rescue in the UK is free of charge to those who need it. Team members voluntarily give their time to assist the emergency services in the search for missing persons, and the rescue and care of those who fall ill or meet with accident on the hills and moorland.
But specialist equipment, mountain rescue vehicles, team clothing, maintenance of the team headquarters and day to day admin cost money – currently in the region of £30,000 a year for this team.
Every penny of that money comes to us thanks to the generosity of the public – be it through individual donations and legacies, our patrons scheme, fundraising and sponsored events, local tin ‘shakes’ or strategically placed collection boxes.
The team also supports many local groups with standby rescue cover, gives demonstrations and talks, and participates in open days. We also run our own regular fundraising events, sporting occasions such as the Rossendale Way in a Day and the Mountain Bike Challenge
