69: A sighting of a flare was reported to the police by a member of the public.
The light was described as five yellow/orange balls descending from about 50 feet. The informant has military experience and said he thought it might be an illuminating flare rather than a distress flare.
After consultation between leadership it was decided to ask the police to send ON99 to search an area of 1k square around SD800421, including a footpath running up/down the hill at that point.
No person was found in distress although there were plenty of walkers in the area. Team stood down at 10.26hrs.
