Ambulance Assist

September 27, 2008 @ 12:30 PM

32: A 68 year old woman was reported with chest pains on the footpath south of Turbine 1 on Scout Moor.

We were requested by the organiser of the wind farm Open Day to attend a female, reported collapsed adjacent to Turbine 3. A Greater Manchester Fire Service crew, on scene providing a static display close to the turbine, treated the lady with oxygen before we arrived. Apparently, the fire crew had requested ambulance attendance thirty minutes before our arrival yet our travel time was approximately ten minutes. The team was contacted by GMAS on the ERC radio channel, as we were arriving on scene. In fact, the patient was already being assessed by the team doctor as the GMAS crew arrived, five minutes after us. She was then transferred to hospital by the ambulance crew. This was a disappointing incident for us as we were actually present and available at this event at the specific bequest of the organisers and were contactable by mobile, radio, pager and GMAS had been informed of this. The point being that we could have been on scene sooner than we were.
