Ambulance Assist

31: We attended a 22 year old male, collapsed en route up to the windfarm.
Team members, already on scene for the Scout Farm Open Day, responded up the track but found nothing. A subsequent recall on ERC to NWAS eventually established that the casualty was north of the wind farm, opposite the side of Turn Quarry. Team members relocated and met up with the responding Lancashire ambulance crew on the turbine track. A first responder also attended in his own car, passing team members and continuing along the moorland track in search of the casualty, after discussion with paramedics. NWAS informed us that Helimed 08 had located the casualty who was fully compos mentis and provided us with a grid reference to enable us to meet with and transport him down to the waiting ambulance in the quarry. The patient had apparently suffered minor palpitations whilst walking up the hillside.
Again, a disappointing note – we were only alerted to attend the incident after overhearing a call to a first responder requesting him to attend 'a male reported collapsed on Scout Moor'. A subsequent call on ERC by ourselves, prompted them to ask us to attend the incident, when we had actually already informed NWAS of our presence in the vicinity.
