This year’s Mary Townley loop challenge will take place on Sunday 15 September 2013.
Challenge your legs, lungs and possibly other parts of your anatomy in possibly one of the more gruelling mountain bike events. See the West Pennine Moors as you take on 47 miles of bridleway, and 2.5km of ascent and descent.
The challenge will be the same as 2011, riding clockwise from Fearns High School in Waterfoot, with refreshment stations, bike and rider recovery if you don’t make it, and general encouragement from the Team as you go past.
Once you get back to the finish, there’ll be the usual hot drinks and masses of cake to enjoy. We hope to have the sports masseuses once again for those with achey legs that need attention, plus we’ll bring a jetwash along for you to clean up. There’ll also be showers if you need them.
Can I just point out that this is the tenth anniversary of the Mary Towneley Loop – so it is a bit of a special occasion! Also new this year – we will record your time for you and publish it on the web, so you see how you did. There’ll also be the usual dose of photos we take posted online to download for free as well.
Entries now open!!!!

If you don’t have Paypal, you can still register here and send us a cheque marked for the attention of ‘The Treasurer’ to our Clegg Street base. Please write your name and the Primary Attendee number from the invoice that we send you on the back of the cheque so we can match it up. Let us know if you have a problem.
Will you be publishing a route map as I would like to ride the course a few times before the event.
Keith
two good sources are:
http://www.idonohoe.com/mountian_bike9.htm
which gives you a 1:50,000 map to look at and a GPX route to download.
http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/downloads.asp?pageid=37
gives you a GPS route plus a simpler map. I think if you mail them they can send you a weather resistant version of this map. We stopped handing them out a few years back because people were saying they didn’t need them. I hope this helps, and enjoy the practise runs.
Will be back again for this one.!!
even if it does knock the stuffing out you.
P.S. Dear lord make it dry……..!!
when we will be able to enter?
Jack
entries open today June 11th!
will all the gates be open ???
John
I would love to have enough staff to have all the gates open but they won’t be, so you’ll have to be hardcore like I am and open your own gates. And then of course shut them! If you can pair up with someone it always reduces gate hassle.
Hi
How much does this cost and how do I enter it?
cheers
Gavin
Hi Gavin
we’re just opening up the online entry today so all the details you require will be accessible shortly through our events tab on this website
Did you change the date? This used to say Sunday 2nd September which matches the sentence about it being 2 weeks earlier than normal.
Richard
we have changed the date to 16th September 2012 for many good reasons; this date is now confirmed, but apologies for the conflicting information
Oh well, that’s a shame, this date conflicts with the Great North Run which I’ve already entered. So next year I think I will do this cycle instead.
Ill be sure to enter and hopefully have a full team by then! looking forward to it.
CycleGuideSports is currently being set my by myself ( a qualified Mountain bike instructor) and hopefully i can bring more awareness accros rossendale on the saftey aspects off the sport aswell as the up most fun that we can have!
i’ll see about getting RossendalePennineAdventure (RPA) involved aswell which could build up another team to help you with this event. RPA is a bike hiring service which offers accomodation and skill courses for mountain biking accross rossendale and pennine, which i also work for. I’ll be sure to to my best to get a few people together for this great cause!
also, i’ll be more than happy to volunteer and help you guys out, any information or advice email me please.
my personal email is smileymikey90@yahoo.co.uk
I’ll be There
Mikey

Andy
you can either send cash or a cheque to 46 Clegg St, marked for the attention of the MTL organiser; please could you remind us you have entered online – your name should be enough to work out who you are on our electronic entry database. Cheers!
46 Clegg St where?
Rossendale & Pendle MRT 46 Clegg Street Haslingden Rossendale Lancashire BB4 5LW
as per our contact page on this website.
Can you pay on the day or are riders expected to pre-book?
Phil
you can pay on the day but if you can still register it gives us a clue about how many scones to bake and so on and so forth!
please could you confirm the postcode for the school/ car park for the event – is it Fearns community sports college – OL13 0TG ?
thanks

The event is still open to pre-register, but you are welcome to turn up on the day and register as well. See the information and downloadable document on the front page of the website.
Hi – have the finishing times been posted up somewhere that I can’t find?
Hi, will you be publishing the results?
thanks, great event, fantastic marshals and organisation.
I took part in the Mary Towneley Loop last Sunday and firstly would like to thank all you volunteers for the time effort and smiley faces you gave for the event. After finishing and giving my number (270) to man on computer, I didn’t find out what time it took me and can’t find the results on your website. How do I get the results?
Thank you
Andy Hunt
Any news on the results and photo’s?
Thanks – top event as ever by the way!
