No rest for the wicked...

And as if the longest team day of the Rossendale Way event wasn't enough, and team members hadn't dispersed (finally) for a well earned beer or cuppa, and a bit of kip, the pager beeped again in the early hours.

Our neighbours from the Bowland Pennine team were already committed to a search in Fleetwood so we were asked to go to Abbeystead, near Lancaster, (another area of their patch) to search for a couple in their early thirties who were believed to be suicidal.

The callout followed a reported text message to a friend of the couple, at 23.30hrs the night before, suggesting they would take their own lives.

There was an understandably poor response from team members given that they had been out for the best part of twenty four hours the day before running the team's annual fundraiser, the Rossendale Way in a Day.

Consequently, the team leader passed the job to Bolton MRT but their team members were en route when the job was halted by the police at 06.10hrs.

In the event, the couple were found in their car, with the exhaust connected to the inside of the car. Both were treated by NWAS paramedics.

The pace continued into the next day however with a call to attend a ten year old boy had fallen from his bike at Lee Mill Quarry, Bacup. The ambulance crew requested assistance due to the off road location. In the event, the casualty was brought to the ambulance by a member of the public and the team were stood down en route.
