Team members go back to school

Friday 5 March saw a small group of team members visiting Rossendale School to help pupils in Year 9 with their 'emergency services' project.

An interactive session gave the children hands-on experience, looking at our specialist rescue equipment for stabilising casualties and evacuating them from the hills with traumatic injuries.

The team's 4x4 off-road ambulance was used to demonstrate how we have been called upon more than ever this winter to recover other vehicles stuck in the snow and ice.

The children were also given a demonstration in the use of search and rescue dogs who are used to help search large areas for missing persons.

Team member and treasurer Neil Woodhead, who organised the event for the school, was delighted with how the children got involved and were so enthusiastic in learning about the team's rescue capabilities.

He also thanked the school for allowing us to use their premises when staging our annual major fundraising event, scheduled every year for the first Saturday in July. The Rossendale Way in a Day sees walkers tackle either the full or half Rossendale Way and the school is used as the starting point for those doing the shorter challenge.

This year's event takes place on Saturday 3 July, entry is £15 for adults, £7.50 for under-16s. Details are being prepared as we speak – so keep an eye on the website for updates, coming soon!
