It's a scorcher at Police Open Day!

Rossendale and Pendle MRT team members and trainee search dogs attended the open day at the new Bury police station on 22 May, courtesy of Greater Manchester Police.

It was a scorching summer's day and large numbers of visitors flooded in to see the new facilities and meet the team.

The team displayed rescue equipment for members of the public to view and a continual line of willing volunteers was available to test the vacuum mattress, which is used for anyone requiring full body splinting due to spinal fractures, internal injuries and multiple fractures. Alongside the team were police horses, the GMP band, vintage and modern police vehicles, fire engines and the ever popular Bury FC cheerleaders who were delighted to be photographed with our vehicle. There were also guided tours around the cells and finger printing demonstrations.

On the Tower FM stage team members gave a public display of the vacuum mattress with Chief Inspector Carol Martin the willing casualty! The team even assisted Constable Cub with his imaginary fractured leg, which was carefully splinted so he could continue entertaining the crowds.

The new police station, which is scheduled to officially open its doors to the public on 14 June, is situated less than 300 yards from the birthplace of the founder of the modern police service, Sir Robert Peel. The £16 million project has all the modern facilities and will be a tremendous divisional HQ, from which Rossendale and Pendle MRT can support the police on local missing person searches.
