Green light for new base
Team members heard this week that planning permission for their new base in Haslingden has been granted.
Work now begins in earnest to raise the estimated £500,000 necessary to complete the project!
Achieving a new headquarters has been a team dream for some years now, with demands on the team having far outstripped their current premises on Clegg Street. The need for more space to house four vehicles, rescue equipment and a growing number of team members, as well as provide ample space for training and control of call outs, has become ever more urgent.
Team chairman Graham Dalley said, 'When we moved into Clegg Street, the team was dealing with a mere eight or nine calls in a year.
'But recent years have seen the callout rate rise rapidly, with the snow and ice of last December and January contributing to unprecedented demand on team resources.'
The news came hot on the heels of a £2000 grant from Rossendale Borough Council to provide materials to 'do up' our existing base – given that we may well be there for a year or two yet as we raise the funding for, and then build, our new home! The paint pots and brushes will be in evidence very soon. In the meantime, thanks to RBC for supporting us!
