Team leads Bury Carnival procession

Team members led the carnival procession last Saturday, on a route through Bury watched by over 10,000 people.

The rescue vehicles were used at the request of Bury Lions to lead the way with lights flashing. We were closely followed by the centrepiece acrobat beneath the heliosphere, and a long line of bands and floats. Bringing up the rear of the long procession were our friends from Bolton MRT.

The bright sunshine brought out big crowds to see the colourful procession, before congregating for the gala – which was opened by Bury's gold-medal winning paralympian Zoe Robinson. The team displayed our new control vehicle which enabled us to demonstrate our high tech GPS mapping capabilities, which tracked the rescue vehicles at the front of the procession.

Arrangements had been made for us to quickly leave the procession or gala if required for operational duties and this plan was quickly put into action at 12.46 when the North West Ambulance Service requested our assistance in dealing with an injured mountain biker at Lee Mill Quarry in Bacup.

It was an excellent opportunity for the team to promote their services to the residents in Bury, many of whom had seen our vehicles in action assisting the ambulance service during the harsh winter.

We are very grateful to Bury Lions for the invitation to join the carnival and hope to be able to support them again in future years.
