Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team is a registered charity, made up entirely of volunteers. An integral part of the national search and rescue service, we are called out through the 999 system, and cover an area of approx 350 square miles across East Lancashire, Pendle, the Rossendale Valley and parts of Greater Manchester.
The chances are you won’t ever need our services but, since January 2000, over five hundred people have. Injured walkers, fell runners, climbers, paragliders, mountain bikers (even the odd stranded sheep or crag fast dog!) were more than pleased to see us. Our knowledge of terrain and conditions, combined with specialist equipment, vehicles, training and casualty care were vital in returning them to safety.
But our work isn’t just about moors and mountains. Through our links with both Lancashire and Greater Manchester Police, and the Lancashire and Greater Manchester Ambulance Services, many of our call outs involve missing person searches, or assisting the ambulance service during severe weather conditions and where access to a casualty is difficult.
I have never used these services till today 22/10/11. I unfortunatley hurt my leg whilst walking and knowing it was not going to ease realised i needed help as i couldnt weight bare on it. We called for help and when it arrived it was excellent prior to them coming i was worried i would be there till dark if not all night and how would they get me off.
Luckily for me a full team arrived and took over making me think things were ok and i then knew i would be ok. They calmed me explained everything and quickly thought through a plan to enable my rescue safely. Despite being in a terrible place for them to walk through they constantly asked if i was ok and comfortable the care was excellent and the job they do is fantastic. The people were great and thankyou seems so little i have donated and will continue to do so as having needed and used this service i really appreciate what a hard job they do against all weathers these people are diamonds and will get my support whole heartedly. Thank you so much.x
Jackie, on behalf of all the Team, thankyou for your kind words, and your kind support. We wish you a speedy recovery, and hope to see you again in better circumstances!
